More than 8000 KIA cars are being recalled over a dangerous transmission issue that could potentially cause a serious accident.
All 2020-2022 MQA KIA Sorento vehicles were affected, the federal government’s Department of Transport said on Tuesday. Grease As Lubricant
Due to production issues, a crack may develop in the circuit board of the transmission electric oil pump (EOP), the recall notice says.

This could cause the oil pump to fail.
“If the EOP fails, hydraulic pressure will be lost and the vehicle may lose drive thereby increasing the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” the recall notice says.
Owners of the affected model should immediately contact a KIA dealer to schedule an appointment to have the transmission software updated.
Just over 8500 vehicles are affected.
