The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and the City Park Conservancy are gearing up for the 74th annual Big Bass Rodeo and Fishtival at New Orleans City Park on Saturday, March 25. It’s not too early to start preparing for the rodeo. As part of LDWF’s FREE Fishing Course Series, two Beginner Bass Fishing courses will be held at New Orleans City Park on February 25 and March 24 to get you rodeo-ready. Participants can expect to learn a variety of skills including bass behavior, proper handling, and how to tie and utilize classic rigs and lures. The course is perfect for both those new to the sport and anglers looking to enhance their skills! As the oldest freshwater rodeo in the nation, the Big Bass Rodeo offers categories for everyone, including Adult, Junior, Team, Student Angler and Kayak divisions. A FREE family-friendly Fishtival will be held the day of the rodeo providing entertainment throughout the morning and a visit from LDWF and City Park Conservancy’s mascots, Robbie the Redfish and Parker the Raccoon.
