THRISSUR: The doctors who treated Saseendran had told police on Sunday itself that his death was not due to food poisoning but due to poison. Soon after the cremation of him, his son Mayurnathan was taken into police custody and questioned. Although Mayurnathan was taken into custody in the afternoon, he was not ready to admit the crime in the beginning. He later told police that his enmity with his father and step-mother Geetha and the feeling of losing his property led him to commit the crime. Mayurnath's mother committed suicide 15 years ago. Mayurnath had set up a lab on the first floor of his house to prepare medicines etc.

It is reported that he prepared the poison in this lab. Saseendran’s relatives were making arrangements for his cremation at home. In between this, his wife Geetha started vomiting. She was taken to the medical college in the same ambulance that brought the body of Saseendran. The directions came from the medical college to bring back the body after kept on the floor with lighted lamps. All started developing uneasiness after eating idli, sambar and kadala curry made at home. They vomited blood and were foaming at the mouth. Forensic and fingerprint experts collected evidence from the house. Mayurnath told police that he consumes specially prepared liquid food after an intestinal surgery conducted recently.
